Tower takeover...

In the 2019-2020 season the Firestone Robotics club was making school history. In the last season as the school's sole club, 7316 won a total of 19 awards, 7 of which by a single team, had a historic Kalahari and went to second signature event for the second time in a season: Night at the Museum. Unfortunately, the season ended early and in tragedy

Members from the club cheer on as Teams 7316E and 7316F compete together in the elimination bracket at the Firestone Robotics Qualifier

As the first team to be 100% first-year since the early days of the club, 7316A did still put together a very good season. Despite not making it to states, they did advance to the Round-of-16 in their final 3 competitions, won a close match at Kalahari, and finished as the 1st seed at Mahoning en route to a Semi-final appearance. With much of the team sticking together for another season, the future looks bright as they enter their second year

Heading into States, Team 7316B was having a historic season. Winning a total of 7 awards, all of which Design, they won the second-most awards in a season by any Firestone Team before them, with only 7316E from the 2015-2016 season beating them by 1. All of this despite not moving onto Worlds. After becoming the first team to represent the club at Night at the Museum, they won the highlight of their season by bringing home the Design Award and becoming the first team in VEX Robotics history to win Design at multiple Signature Events in the same season.

If one were to judge the Dino Nuggets' season based off when they qualified for States, one would think they had a bad season. However, as they reached the Round-of-16 in all but two events, won Tournament Champions at Mahoning, and got an interview at States, Team 7316D was one of many teams to have an incredible year for Firestone, even if they didn't qualify until their final competition.

Eggs 'N Bacon proved to be another great team from Firestone. Winning two Excellence Awards, advancing to the Round-of-16 in all but one competition, and narrowly missing a Worlds spot, Team 7316E was one of the most balanced teams Firestone has had, and showed that the club can create teams that are good in competition as well when they finished as the third seed at Kalahari, the highest in school history. With only one senior, the remaining 6 members of the team will look to make it to Worlds in the 2020-2021 season.

Team 7316F started the season strong, advancing to at least the Round-of-16 in each of their first four competitions, including a finals appearance, and an early States qualification. Despite technical difficulties throughout Kalahari, FBI still managed to secure three wins in which they provided a pivotal role in. They rode the momentum of a Design Award into States, where they ultimately came short but still had a season to remember

Xcalibur was one of Firestone's strongest teams during Tower Takeover, evidenced by the fact they were the only FHS team to qualify for Worlds. Winning an award at each of their final competitions for a total of 5 throughout the season and missing the Round-of-16 once in 10 events, they were also the only team affected by the growing COVID-19 pandemic, which caused the cancellation of the World Championship. With the hopes of heading to Dallas, they look to remain one of the most competitive teams from Firestone.

Promising season ends early and tragically

Despite the club's best efforts, only one team, 7316X qualified for Worlds. However the competition was never held and the worst tragedy in club history was yet to follow

Xcalibur brought in the highlight of the season, winning two Worlds-qualifying awards at States

However, with the growing covid-19 pandemic, xcalibur never got to compete in Louisville. Less than a week after states, all schools in Ohio were ordered to go online by the state, bringing club meets, which had occurred regularly for the past 5 years, to an abrupt end. only weeks after this, the worst thing anyone could imagine happened...
